  • Karwa Chauth is a popular Indian festival that celebrates the power of an unbreakable bond of love and commitment shared by a husband and wife.It is also known as Niraja Vrat The term 'Karva' means an earthen pot of water or a small pitcher and 'Chauth' means fourth.it is a one-day festival where married women observe fasts for the long life of their husbands..

  • On this day women begin their fasts at sunrise, which continues throughout the day until the moonrise. Married women do not eat or drink anything on this day and pray to Lord Shiva.The day begins with an early morning prayer and is followed by 'Sargi', which is basically a food platter containing Feniya,roti,furits,curry,sabji, dry fruits,sweets,coconut. Women can only consume sargi after their bath and this healthy meal helps them to prepare for the day's fasting. The fast can only be broken after the offerings and sighting of the moon and the rituals are usually carried out in groups. During this time, women narrate the Story of the Karwa Chauth Mahatamya. Married women worship Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya on this day. Apart from that, people also worship Goddess Gaura and Chauth Mata on this day. Women pray for the long life of their husbands and pray to Lord Shiva to protect them from any obstacles or difficulties and bless them with longevity. It is also believed that this festival brings peace, happiness and joy into their married life. .

  • Karwa Chauth Pooja Vidhi:
    • Start your Karwa Chauth Ka Vart with this holy mantra: मम सुखसौभाग्य पुत्रपौत्रादि सुस्थिर श्री प्राप्तये करक चतुथीज़् व्रतमहं करिष्ये।' .
    • Make an idol of Gauri out of yellow clay and place Ganesha on her lap.
    • Make Maa Gauri sit on a wooden throne and cover her with a red coloured chunri and offer her other adornments.
    • Now worship Gauri Ganesh with the law and recite the story of Karva Chauth.
    • After the worship, touch the feet of all the senior people of the house and take their blessings.
    • After the moon comes out in the night, look at it with the help of a sieve and offer Ardhya to the moon
    • After this, take blessings from the husband and open your Karwa Chauth Vart.
  • Karwa Chauth Pooja includes:
    • Sargi is one of the most significant components on the Karwa Chauth Day. Sargi is a special meal prepared which is eaten before the sunrise. It usually includes seviyan or vermicelli which are prepared by the mother-in-law for the daughter-in-law. According to the Hindu custom, married women do not involve in any kind of household activity during the festivity of Karwa Chauth. Henna (Mehndi) ceremony is performed along the day of Karwa Chauth by the married women. This day is completely dedicated to the husbands by their respective wives.
    • Shringar (adornment) is seen as one of the most important factors of this day. Precious jewelry and bangles are worn by the married women, which represent their marital status. The day of Karwa Chauth is also celebrated as the get together between the friends and relatives
    • Karwa Chauth Sankalp:After the morning bath on the day of Karwa Chauth, women are said to take a pledge which is also referred as Sankalp. Karwa Chauth Sankalp is taken for well being of the husband and the household. One important thing which is recounted during the Sankalpa is that the fast will be done without consuming any food and water and it concludes with the sighting of moon.
