Dhanteras is a day for praying for the health and well being for all your family and friends.Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi, This auspicious day is celebrated two days before the festival of lights, Diwali. Dhanteras,is made of two words ‘Dhan’, meaning wealth, and ‘teras’ that refers to the 13th day of the month of Kartik, according to the Hindu calendar. This day kick starts the five-day festivities of Diwali. It is celebrated by lightening earthen lamps or ‘deep’ at night to glorify Yama, the god of Death. Hindus consider this an extremely auspicious day for making new purchases, especially of gold or silver articles and new utensils.
On the day of Dhantrayodashi,Goddess Lakshmi, along with Lord Kubera who is the God of wealth, is also worshipped on the auspicious day of Trayodash.The day of Dhanteras is also observed as Dhanwantari Triodasi or Dhanvantri Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the God of Ayurveda. Dhanteras pooja purifies your yesteryear sins and also acts as a remedy for removal of all doshas/Graha giving health-related troubles. :

The story behind Dhanteras
- This is an interesting story about the 16-year-old son of King Hima. The 16-year-old son of King Hima was predicted to die on his fourth day of marriage (on Dhanteras) while sleeping by snakebite. However, as the new bride got to know about it, she decided she would not let him go to sleep. She laid out all her ornaments as well as pots of gold and silver coins at the entrance to their bedroom and lit lots of lamps. To keep her husband from falling asleep, she narrated him stories and sang songs. When the God of Death, Yama, came disguised as a snake, he was so dazzled by the glittering precious metals and lights that he climbed on top of the coins and listened to the stories and songs instead. Since Yama missed the time set for the boy’s death, he slinked away in peace. Thus, the young prince was saved from the clutches of death by the cleverness of his new bride, and the day came to be celebrated as Dhanteras..
